I have a question for you all. I have an issue to combat with my black pony before October 3rd. If you look at his shoulder in the below photo, you'll notice he has some hair missing. This is from when he itched earlier this year. It hasn't quite grown back (I haven't done anything with it, however). Parts of it are growing back black, because thats the colour he is in summer. So my question is...can I get this to look somehow even and not as big a contrast in the hair colours before the upcoming show? He's getting rugged and white healer on the marks beginning tomorrow to promote the hair growing back...but I'm not sure if it's do-able. If not, I want to enter him in only performance and not spend money on the breed classes...LOL Smile

Thanks! All and anytips are appreciated!

The show is enter on the day isn't it? I think it might be a case of give it your best shot and then see how he looks on the day. Can his mane be arranged to cover it at all?

Also, I would suggest using some sort of skinny hood or satin lined neckrug that you tuck inside of his rug/combo (and tie to the leg straps or something) so that the shoulder hem doesn't rub the area and irritate it more and possibly slow down the hair regrowth.

The only other thing I can suggest is a whole body clip, but you probably don't want to do this going into summer when his good coat would be on the verge of coming thru anyway.

Thanks Ponykid Smile

Nah, entries close September 17th, haha! Planning to send them off on Monday. I'm thinking perhaps I'll do that - just give it my best shot and enter him in the breed class anyway. It's just for fun, so I guess it can't hurt!

I didn't think of the mane idea...that could work. He has a thick mane (it's on both sides at the moment, LOL!) and I'll definitely throw a skinny hood on him. That would work a treat.

I'd entertained the idea of clipping him...but I don't think he'd stand through it, to be honest, LOL! And he's RAPIDLY shedding...my palomino girl is really holding onto her coat in comparison (I'm clipping her. She's part welsh, so maybe thats the reason, ahha!).

Anyway, thanks for the advice! Very Happy

I use HG Serum on any rub marks or scars as it helps the fur or mane/tail grow really quickly and it comes through the same color as before so there are no noticeable white marks.
Sorry to say it probably wont grow your mark back quickly enough but its handy to always have in the tack room. Smile

Thanks for the tip Smile It's hard...because it's a pre-entry thing, I don't know how well he'll look on the actual day. Here's a better photo to show the extent of it...the opposite side is a little bigger, but this gives you the idea (taken this morning).

I use Hi shine hot oil (I mix two capfuls in a spray bottle with the rest water) I spray it on them every day when I groom them and I have found the hair to grow back within a few days, not completely but some coverage....

It is made by the same people as the HG serum and it smells like coconut rum
I love you sunny

And it puts a nice shine on them...But for the problem at hand I am not sure...I would just show him as it...it's not really that bad Smile
If it was a huge scab or something then I wouldnt but it just looks to me shorter black hair...I think you will be fine

Yeah I am with Mel, it isn't very obvious at all so I wouldn't worry too much. He is a nicely proportioned little pony! Once he is bathed he will prob fluff up anyway and you might not even notice it. I would be more worried about his sunbleached forelock Razz

Oh and Mel - what's wrong with showing scabby ponies?! affraid

Hahaha, okay, thanks guys! Errr, yeah, the forelock... lol! Gonna have to dye that, ROFLMAO Smile It's a shame, because I really love how it looks when sunbleached! Kinda like the foils girls pay up to a hundred dollars to have put in their hair every month lol! I'm really bummed he's only 7ml overgrown from being a section A Miniature pony...because now he has to jump against the big guys! Very Happy It's going to be fun, can't wait! WHOOT Smile

Nothing wrong with scabby ponys Razz I have one of my own at the moment *shame* I don't know wether to enter her or not *sigh* what to do....If I dont enter her and she is back to normal,I will kick myself, and if I do and she is still sick well thats money wasted.

LOL! Well, he was about 4 ml off 87 cms when they took about 5 ml off to accomodate for trimming his hooves (I had him measured by the ALHMBA) (and I think that was the measurements. I remember he wasn't a lot off at all, but it got confusing at the end!) but yeah, we couldn't get him under *sobs* So I just got him registered as a small pony...but I've asked the show coordinator about the jumping...because he's only just a small pony and he'll be competing against horses a lot bigger than him in the bigger section!

And thats bummed about your pony! Sad Kinda like the itch with this guy...and thats why pre-entering is ovverated, LOL. If she's more a performance horse than a led class horse...I'd enter her anyway.

Performance is going to be a ball! I jumped Middy today and started with little jumps but he got bored so quick...15 mins later and he was jumping his own height and still bored Shocked Bahahahaha! Forgot to ask you, what happens if you have a refusal in the hunter?

You lose points for knocks and refusals. The jumps aren't very solid looking so some ponies do tend to be a bit careless and not pick up their feet properly.

Mel, to be honest it has taken you all these months and she still isn't 100% ready, so I don't see her doing a complete turnaround in a few weeks, so might be best to give her a miss and aim for Blacktown?

It is Desert my Pally filly that I waited for months for,the person that originally bought her defaulted and i got the chance to buy her,and I just want to show her so bad,she is such a lovely girl.

Well,I thought it was the horse next door coughing, then I looked while she was doing it and he was over the other side of the paddock and it was her Sad only just realised it today but have heard it for a week or so.

Heres hoping on Monday I will know whats wrong with her!
She is like an arab in mini, she has the dished head, big doe eyes and when she trots she looks like she is floating on air,I wish I had a ray gun to make her full sized cause she would be an awesome ride.

Did you end up Vam pasting her yet or waiting to see what the vet prescribes? Here's to hoping he can suggest something to turn around the poor darling. Neutral

How did the vet go, Mel? And congrats on officially owning her!!! Yipee!

I sent my entry forms today, wooo hoooo!!! I'm very nervous about this whole clipping deal, too...the clipping lady was in Tamworth for dressage over the weekend, so I'm waiting for her to call me back...and Sparkle needs to be done asap because she's suddenly decided she wants to loose her hair in the last 2 days! Rolling Eyes And she definitely won't have her summer coat by the show, so she needs to be clipped...! Eeek....I need to get this organised faster but I don't want to be pushy LOL Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

deltree it is always the best time to clip them when there coats are pouring out. the new coat comes in really fast.
If you look at my pics I cliped her when her coat was falling out in hand fulls.her summer coat is nearly all the way through now.

I have been clipping them for years and always do it at that time,as you know that they are getting ready for there summer coat.
If you do it before that you battle to get the coat as its not ready, and you just get cat hairs. Not a good look.
