| I never show a foal that is still on its mum.I will do a couple of foal shows in the winter once it is weaned. Then in Spring it is full on showing.Depends on if your foal is horse or pony, mini horse they clip there babies, something I dont agree with but anyway.Mini pony foals must have there natural coat, but I know of some people who clip there mini pony foals now will still on mum so by the time the foal shows start they have got a much shorter coat. Some people have to win at any cost so they cheat. At least I know I am doing the right thing by my foals and leave them natural. The main thing is that you enjoy your baby and have fun. | |

| I won't be clipping Athena when I get her, not until next show season, anyway. She's just a baby - too much too soon will probably make her sour. So we're just going to have fun and go out when we feel like it during winter. In the spring, we'll probably show some more | |

| If you show a foal that is less than 4mths old, you MUST take the mare with it. I start showing them at around 6mths old when they have well and truly learnt how to lead and tie up. | |

| Teach them as you would a big horse but with shorter lessons, walk, trot, stand.
If its a mini pony then wash and brush. Horses i dont know about. | |

| I have enquired about the Cairns Show and the only event was on the first day at 8.30am last year. This year I beleive there is going to be a harness class & lead class, which is probably still on the first day in morning. But there are also the smaller shows on the Tablelands. I am in Kuranda. | |

| You need to check what the registry rules are for the show as some registries require any foal 6 months or younger be shown with the dam (I know this is the case for MHF) My only advice is make sure your foal is ready for showing, there are way too many people taking foals that play up badly and in my opinion that is just being selfish as it wastes time while everyone waits for the foal to calm down to be judged. I would rather wait until the foal is older and mature enough to handle the situation if they carried on a bit...and it usually means you'll end up with a better horse instead of a sour one! Good luck at the shows! | |
