| Contemplating this question on this freezing cold day.
How small is too small for you to breed from a mare? | |

| it would have to depend on her body, conformation and what stallion. If she is well put together but just small then shouldnt be a problem, but if there looked like any hint of dwarfism then not at all. We have a filly who is 18mnths and 26inch,she is going to be small at adult age but is put together beautifully. And if she hits at least 28 or more then she will be put into foal... | |

| Yes totally agree with mineees, as long as she is well conformed and no dwarfism would breed. One of my little mares is 28 inches [74.5cm] and very nicely put together and has had a stunning champagne colt to a previous breeder. She is hopefully in foal to my stallion [who is also very nicely conformed and is 28 inches also] this season and looking forward to a lovely foal early January. Would just make sure the stallion is small also. | |

| It's not just height you have to consider its also the hips. Some "refined" minis have very narrow hips which makes foaling safely harder. If you have any concern at all when you are ready to breed maybe you could ask your vet for a professional opinion. | |
