Was just reading the MH&PE program for next month which I wasnt going to due to no one being round to drag the horses out for me but now my nan can.

I noticed the colour classes...
What would a black slowly greying out be classed as-Solid?
And a black buckskin... is that a dilute or a solid?

And I am assuming a taffy is a dilute.

And the classic head class... Is this moe for minis with small araby type heads?

I might give novice trail a go to hahaha prepare to laugh..I have NO IDEA but I know shatters will behave and give everything a go so why not

Yes, black going grey is a solid. Black buckskin is a dilute, but keep in mind that if he looks more black than buckskin he might do better in the solid class.

Taffy is a solid. Dilutes are only palomino, buckskin, cremello and perlinos.

Halter trail is FUN, the hardest part I find is getting your pony to back up 6 feet without touching them. I will be doing it with Duke this year.

finally, someone with sense!
TAFFY IS SOLID NOT DILUTE!
so many people at shows put the taffy in dilute.
it really annoys me

I've seen a lot of the online shows also put taffy/dilutes into the same class... it irks me!

Silver is a dilution its just not a cream dilution. Hence why Dilutes Australia has a registry for it.
Unless the class is called "Cream Dilutes" there is no reason why a Silver shouldnt compete in it

I have 3 Smokey Blacks (Black Buckskin) and they always go in dilute.

Agreed silver is a dilute! I have just been reading up on it today and discovered there is more than one type as well and Australians are the only ones that call the colour Taffy!

I didn't think the silver gene was considered a dilution gene though, because it doesn't "dilute" the base colour.

Did you read that link Kay, it tells you everything about how it dilutes. I think the problem is that there are way too many names for colours and people use them wrong then everyone ends up confused!

Im pretty sure Taffy's are classed as a dilute. The dilutes Australia Society register's them as a dilute and are eligiable to compete in dilute classes.

Normally in the classic head classes the judges look at big expressive eyes, small muzzle, ear set, nice neck and throat latch.
Yes they do tend to like the dishy arab heads and welsh heads though it depends on the judge as to what wins on the day.
I have beaten american imports in head classes with my gelding who everyone says has a pony head so it really depends on what the judges personal preference is - the same as in the big hack rings!!
Some times you will win or place under certain judges and other judges you dont even get a look in.

Silver (Taffy - me don't like that word LOL) would go in Dilute class.
I have a stallion whom looks Liver Chestnut i guess you could say, but he's Silver & he goes in the Dilute classes.

Black Buckskins being a Dilute enter Dilute classes, not Solid. Wink
